Celebrity Spotlight
Imagine working years toward your dream and finally reaching that first milestone of success. The moment you have been waiting for has finally arrived. It’s the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and Taylor Swift is speechless as her name was called for Best Female Video. Going up against Beyonce Knowles, P!NK, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Kelly Clarkson, Taylor had quite a competition. It was her first chance to give a thank you speech so we all can imagine how nervous she must have been. Out of nowhere, Kanye West appears on stage proclaiming Beyonce Knowles as having “one of the best videos of all time.” Many outrageous comments have been made on this moment in Award Show History. Apologies have been made and accepted but what comes to your mind when u hear the name Kanye West?? Impressions last FOREVER!!!

XU Spotlight
Xavier University has many talented individuals. Greg Dixon, Music major from Houston, Texas currently holds the title of Mr. Xavier after he blazed the stage Thursday night at the annual pageant. He is a very talented individual who has been singing for as long as he can remember. He is expanding his musical talents by learning to play the piano. He has had vocal lessons while attending Xavier, but his natural talent is evident in all of his performances. A person that Greg looks up to in the music industry is the legendary Lauryn Hill. If he could collaborate with any artist on a track, it would be with Usher. Greg has done several performances on Xavier’s campus over the last couple of years. Greg has high goals set for himself and will achieve them with his hard work and passion for music.
Setting the Stage
Osceola McCarthy Adams like other African American performers of her time faced great discrimination. However, she still flourished on the big stage. She appeared in productions; such as The Emperor Jones, The Crucible, An Affair of the Skin and Romeo and Julie; along with many commercials and movies. Osceola McCarthy Adams also had the honor of directing productions at the American Negro Theatre, based in which was a New York.
While performing on stage was her passion, her true strength came from fighting for equal rights. Osceola McCarthy Adams served as an active member of the Actors’ Equity Labor Union and served as a member of the Committee for Minorty Affairs.
Sadly, Osceola McCarthy Adams passed away November 20, 1983 at the age of 83. The “Osceola Award “ which is Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. highest award for achievement in the arts was named in her honor.
